About Lighthouse Quilters Guild

PURPOSE

Lighthouse Quilters Guild (LHQ) is a non-profit organization formed in 1981 by 18 women. The guild was incorporated on May 22, 1986 and was accepted as a chapter in the National Quilting Association on May 1, 1998. The purpose of the guild is to foster the art of quilt making and other activities related to textiles through the sharing of members' talents in order to preserve our quilting heritage and to provide fellowship among members.

MEETINGS

There are 11 meetings a year, held on the last Monday of each month, January through November (except May - that month's meeting is held the week before Memorial Day). The meetings are held at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection at 322 Ohio Street, Racine, Wisconsin. Times for the July potluck picnic and the November Christmas party are announced prior to the event. All meetings generally have a speaker or mini lessons, a short business meeting, a Show and Tell of completed quilts or other projects, and refreshments. The guild also has an extensive quilting library from which the members may borrow books and videotapes.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to anyone interested in the art of quilting. The guild's year run from January 1 to December 31. Membership dues for renewal are due by January 31 of the new year. Yearly dues are $25.00. Each member makes a nametag for themselves. If a member forgets their nametag, they are asked for a 25-cent donation that goes toward the monthly door prize. Each member is asked to participate on the Hospitality Committee once each year. Click here to become a member.

SERVICE PROJECTS

LHQ encourages members to participate in community projects. Members make and donate charity quilts for community organizations that are given out to comfort children and our older residents. We also make and send pillowcases to our troops overseas. So far we have sent out over 3000.
